Has anyone sent any complaining letters/emails to the Cure for issuing a lossy version of their new single?
Why do they do that?
Surely they know a lossless version allows everyone to have the choice.

I'm not disagreeing with you, as I'd take a FLAC download in a second.

But as long as there's an option to buy the CD/vinyl, I think lossless downloads from big name artists will be pretty rare.

Steve

That's a shame really.
I can more or less understand that with smaller artists maybe, but a big act like The Cure should be able to handle that surely?
& I'd also jump on a flac in a heartbeat if they were selling lossless downloads.
If you think about it, there are some countries/ regions who won't have the singles until the rest of the world (& their dog) have had them in the shops for a while & to be fobbed off with a wma paid download is a bit sad.
If you look at NIN or Porcupine Tree (no flinching please Caley  ;)) then they have the options.
With The Cure, there isn't even a choice.

Well, about new-single in FLAC quality.
I saw it online on 13th may. At 9:00 o'clock by UK time an guy post links to "The Only One" flac songs... then nearly 11:00 I saw mp3 on demon...
I think in few years piracy will 'blow up' the world!
We will get singles/albums in FLAC or WAV long before release...
and the way the rain comes down thats how I feel inside...

Steve

I was talking to someone who downloaded the wma of TOO & it was encoded so only he could play it.
If he sent the files to someone else, then the player would ask for a pass word.
The internet isn't the issue here, it's the publishing companies who just want to make a fast buck.
Well, they can make a a buck or 2 in offering lossless downloads FFS.
If they aren't going to move with the times, then piracy will get the better of them.
The audio policy here is lossless only right? (except, of course the amazon link to a lossy download)
How is it that we can share better quality music than the band?
That's just perverse to me.

I guess publishing companies don't know what "lossy" and "lossless" is. They seem to think mp3, wma is cd quality. Maybe they just don't care about Quality.

They don't. Just look what they're doing to all music nowadays:

I just noticed this article has been updated. Maybe we all need to join the "Turn Me Up! group?  :smth023

Also, I believe that thing about new records being harmful to hearing. Since everything is loud, your ears never get a break - and it's well-known that prolonged exposure to loud noises is what hurts your ears.  :?

I'm seriously considering buying the vinyl versions of the new Cure singles/album because of this loudness crap!

ugggh wow ANOTHER reason to hate the music industry... uggh just saying that makes me cringe... music INDUSTRY... like nooo industry makes me think of factories and smokestacks and bureaucracy and fat businessmen smoking cigars behind a desk all day, music is art not business for crissakes! How long can we let this go onnn!!!

Actually lossless downloads could stop this loudness thing, at least for hi-fi ears. Just look at what for example linn records is doing. There are hifists listening to the cure (and rock music) and they need their own format. It is a contradiction already that mp3's of loud remastered cd's sound actually better than originals because of advanced options for normalizing tracks in media players is becoming common, because you need to have same loudness for all tracks you download from the internet to listen your own playlists comfortably. It is actually impossible to listen to loud remasterd cd's with tracks mixed in from older records without copying tracks to computer. But since it's kind of illegal anyways to copy tracks to your computer no one cares, unless there will be lossless downloads.
Life's too short to listen to lossy music
