RE 'JAPANESE WHISPERS' PICTURE DISC - HIGH PRICE - WE HAVE BEEN TOLD:
"Apart from the fact that manufacturing costs have gone through the roof in the past 12 months, the Transclear paper-stock used for Japanese Whispers is much more expensive than a regular cardboard sleeve, and each Japanese Whispers has had to be individually hand packed to avoid tearing the sleeve, which has increased the unit cost even more." When it was released, I listened to it "up and down"; I also bought the singles with the B-sides. For example, I personally like Club America. However, and I recently read that on Wikipedia, many more musicians/technicians were involved in the creation of the album. All of this is now back for so long - without the internet I would have had considerable memory gaps in terms of titles, etc.  :1f636:

General The Cure Discussion / Re: Best Album Cover
Last post by Ulrich - Today at 11:11:23
Quote from: Curehead_steffa on Today at 02:04:51I wonder how they come up with their album covers.

After the band had no say in the choice of album cover pic for their first album "3 Imaginary Boys", Robert made sure he had the last word for all the following albums!
From 1981 on, Porl Thompson & Andy Vella (who formed "Parched Art") designed many covers for them!

QuoteCollaboration of work produced by artists Porl Thompson and Andy Vella. Together they were the driving force behind the art for most of The Cure's album covers, merchandise designs and several other endeavours.

One I listened to not long ago, was "Bare", in some ways a typical Cure song (in the vein of e.g. "Apart"), I like the strings and the sentiments...

QuoteWe know we've reached the end
We just don't know how
"well at least we'll still be friends"
Yeah one last useless vow

But holding on to used to be
Is not enough
Memory's not life
And it's not love

We should let it all go
It never stays the same

But there are long long nights when I lay awake
And I think of what I've done
Of how I've thrown my sweetest dreams away
And what I've really become
And however hard I try
I will always feel regret
However hard I try
I will never forget

I wonder how they come up with their album covers. They're all beautiful and creative and just artistic.

I love it,I love the 13th. I've read a lot of opinions about WMS and i think what most people don't like is the squeaky high pitched voice he adapted. And also I think that their goth profile that everyone had also had some influence in some way or another. I think that it's a good album and that it plays very well into the cure being very versatile in genres. I'll admit I didn't like some songs at first but it grows onto you and the more you hear it the more you like it(like almost every cure song).

Something else / Re: Russia attacks Ukraine
Last post by MeltingMan - May 26, 2024, 18:34:16
Quote from: BildSpectacular recordings from the southeast of Ukraine show the targeted destruction of the most modern Russian anti-aircraft system through a previously retired US rocket from the 1990s. Although the Russian S-400 launches six rockets onto the approaching ballistic US rocket, none hits the target. Seconds later, the Russian "high -tech" is destroyed.

The splintering effect is good, but 165 km range of the first ATACMS series are inadequate. It should be at least 200 km.

They are (again) among us, albeit occasionally, which I am particularly happy about - Orthodox Jews.
Maybe the first, tangible good news this year ...
